School EmPOWERment Grants

As part of the School EmPOWERment Grants program, Walton EMC recently presented almost $370,000 to 59 schools in their 10-county service area. Fourteen WCSD schools received a total of $72,416 in grant funds to support various learning projects.

“Since 2017, Walton EMC has made a substantial difference in our schools, generously contributing more than $600,000 to support a range of projects," said Superintendent Nathan Franklin. "We greatly appreciate their contributions and ongoing dedication to our students and staff. Their generosity has already left a meaningful impact on our schools and our students."

Walton EMC’s grant funds come from capital credit refunds that go unclaimed by former co-op customer-owners. After Walton EMC exhausts all efforts to find the rightful owners of the refunds, Georgia law allows the money to be used for community benefit.

“Our first priority as an electric co-op is providing safe, dependable and affordable electric power,” said Walton EMC CEO Ron Marshall. “Serving our community runs a close second. Our School EmPOWERment Grant program is a perfect example of how we bring community service to life.”
